Places to Visit Near Madhavaram, Chennai

This garden covers 20 acres. It is located inside Madhavaram Milk Colony. It is 2 km away from Madhavaram bus depot. This garden has 700 plant species spread across different sections that have themes like cacti and medicinal herbs.

The garden is open every day from 9 AM to 6 PM. The timings change a little on weekends. The cost to enter is ₹20 for adults and ₹10 for children who're younger than twelve. People who visit can have fun with pedal boating on the pond.

That comes with an extra charge. To get there, take an MTC bus heading towards Madhavaram Milk Colony from the depot. Auto-rickshaws offer a ride, and the price is around ₹60 to ₹80. The area is peaceful, full of greenery and perfect for families with children.

Retteri Lake lies about 3 km from Madhavaram, right along GNT Road near Retteri Junction. The Greater Chennai Corporation is upgrading it with boating jetties and lakeside cafes. Entry to the lake area remains free for all visitors right now.

Morning or sunset visits give the best views and cooler weather. Buses numbered 113, 121 and 142 stop directly at Retteri Signal. A shared auto from Madhavaram costs ₹20 per person one way. The lake sits between Kolathur and Puzhal, making it a popular local landmark.

This ancient Shiva temple is located 1 km from the Madhavaram bus depot. Historians think the structure is 1,300 years old and made of stone. It is open from 6 AM to 12 PM. Then it opens again at 4 PM. There is no charge to enter, and taking photos is usually permitted inside the area.

You can walk here from the depot in about fifteen minutes comfortably. Share autos also ply this short route for ₹10 to ₹15. The temple sits in a residential pocket, surrounded by smaller shrines and shops.

The Aavin milk factory is in Madhavaram and North Chennai. School groups often come here to watch how milk is packaged and sent out. The park next to it does not charge any entry fee. Stays open until the evening.

It is a spot for families who want to take a calm walk after a busy day. The area is 1.5 km away from the main Madhavaram junction. Buses that go to Milk Colony pass through this area. There is space to park for people who come by car or bike.

Pulicat is India's second-largest brackish water lagoon, home to migrating flamingos each winter. It lies about 34 km from Madhavaram via GNT Road toward Ponneri. The best season to visit runs from November through February for bird watching.

Boat rides cost between thirty rupees and fifty rupees depending on the group size. Buses from Madhavaram to Ponneri connect onward to Pulicat via shared transport. The usual drive takes one hour depending on traffic near Red Hills. Carry binoculars if birdwatching interests you since flamingos stay far from shore.

Chennai Central Railway Station is 11 km south of Madhavaram using GNT Road. From that place Marina Beach is another trip, about 4 km more to the east. The total journey from Madhavaram covers 15 km one way.

Suburban trains from Perambur station also go towards the city center at a cost. Bus tickets on this part of the route cost between ₹15 and ₹30 depending on how you are going. Marina Beach does not have any entrance charge. It is open all the time. The evenings at Marina Beach are busy, with food vendors and a nice sea breeze.
